The ManipalCigna SecureHealth Plan focuses on providing basic health coverage without a lot of frills, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're looking for a straightforward option. It covers the essentials like inpatient care, pre- and post-hospitalization expenses, and ambulance charges.

Beyond the basics, it includes AYUSH treatment and cataract treatment (with the standard 2-year waiting period), which can be important for many people. Also, modern treatments like robotic surgeries and oral chemotherapy are included (up to 50% of the sum insured), which shows they're trying to keep up with medical advancements.

One thing to keep in mind is that this plan is only available on an individual basis. The sum insured options are limited to ₹5 lakhs. It also has a co-payment clause and room rent restrictions, which cannot be removed via add-ons or riders.

Pros

Insurer has a solid track record with great claim and service metrics.

Offers HIV/AIDS & Disability Support, which makes this policy stand out.

Cons

Not very feature-rich.

No Restoration Benefit, which is a notable gap.

No Bonus for being healthy and not claiming insurance, which could be a drawback for some.

Your insurer doesn’t provide free health check-ups, which is a key feature.

Pre existing diseases waiting

If you are already dealing with HIV/AIDS, then the insurer will cover you after 30 days. For Pre-Existing Disability, you will be covered after 2 years. However, if you are dealing with other pre-existing diseases including thyroid and cardiovascular problems, then you’ll have to wait 3 years before they start covering these complications.

Coverage for modern treatments like robotic surgeries, even if up to 50% SI, is a forward-thinking feature.
